Why You Should Add Chlorophyll To Your Diet

Chlorophyll is a type of plant pigment responsible for the absorption of light in the process of photosynthesis, which creates energy. It's basically green magic for plants, but what about us humans? 

Turns out, chlorophyll can benefit our health including helping to cleanse the body and allow it to function at an optimal level which leads to better skin, better hair, and an overall feeling of wellness. You can add chlorophyll to your diet through supplements or by adding it to juices (an acquired taste...). Still not convinced that you need to be gulping this green goodness down? Here are a few more reasons why you should add chlorophyll to your diet...

Chlorophyll is sometimes called plant blood as it has a molecular structure that’s almost identical to hemoglobin (red blood cells that transport oxygen to your blood) except for the center atom. In hemoglobin, the center atom is iron but in chlorophyll, it’s magnesium.

This is great news for your skin (and overall body) since magnesium is something our bodies absolutely need – more than 300 enzymes in our body requires magnesium to work – but many of us are deficient in it. Magnesium is critical for our overall cardiovascular, digestive, and nervous systems as well as for proper functioning of muscles, kidneys, liver, and hormone-secreting glands.

Sun damage and oxidization are the main causes of wrinkles. Chlorophyll is rich with skin-protecting antioxidants, and natural sunscreen (though that doesn't mean you should skip applying SPF everyday!). 

Even when pressed from the plants from whence they came, chlorophyll maintains the ability to absorb light, thereby protecting you from harmful UV rays. In fact, chlorophyll is frequently added to moisturizers to give a light protection.!

Vitamin A, C, E and K are some of the best vitamins for preventing fine lines, brown spots and helping to smooth rough patches. And guess what? Whether you drink or apply directly, chlorophyll will help as it is rich in all of these vitamins.

  • Improves Digestion

Chlorophyll improves detoxification by speeding up waste elimination, balancing fluid levels and reducing cases of constipation. Additionally, research shows chlorophyll benefits the metabolism and increases the likelihood of success with weight-loss efforts. A healthy and functioning gut is important for overall health, especially if you want a clear and glowing complexion!

  • Balances Acid-Alkaline Ratio

When our bodies are too acidic (due to too much sugar, alcohol and processed foods), it has an impact on our bones, our teeth, muscles, joints, connective tissues, various organs and other bodily systems.
