What Is Micro-Needling?

Micro-needling, also called dermarolling, collagen induction therapy (CIT), and percutaneous collagen induction (PCI), is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that involves the use of a device that contains fine needles. The basic idea behind micro-needling is to stimulate the production of new collagen. Using the skin’s ability to heal itself, puncturing the dermis with microscopic needles triggers the production of new collagen.

How does it work?

Collagen is a protein that gives our skin its structure, working like a netting to hold skin cells together. It also gives skin a smooth and youthful appearance, as we have it in abundance when we’re young. As we age, collagen starts to break down.

The tiny needles are used to puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury. Each puncture creates a channel that triggers the body to fill these microscopic wounds by producing new collagen and elastin. Through the process of neovascularization and neocollagenesis, there is improvement in skin texture and firmness, as well as reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks. More collagen, better skin.

What are the benefits?

Micro-Needling is used to improve skin tone and texture; treating the appearance of ageing; scarring; stretch marks and pigmentation marks from acne and sun damage.
it allows for better penetration of products, thanks to tiny pinpricks that work almost like canals, allowing your products — often serums, since they're the most  Topical products applied directly after Micro-Needling can be absorbed to a far deeper level in the skin, making them more effective.

Does it hurt?

Numbing cream is applied on the area to be treated, and given plenty of time to kick in. This really helps reduce any pain, but you won’t be completely without sensation. You’ll still be able to feel the pressure and movement of the roller. Following the treatment, your skin will be red and tingly for a while – almost like sunburn. You may have some mild inflammation too. But for most people, these after effects will resolve within a day or two.

What else?

Some people do ask about micro-needling for cellulite, but cellulite is a much deeper issue than you’re going to be able to address with just micro-needling so don't set your hopes too high.
